Since World War II, two global blocs have shaped power. The first, led by America and Western allies, dominated the world order—whoever the U.S. elevated became strong, whoever it sidelined became weak. Opposite stood Russia, China, and Central Asia, heirs of the Soviet legacy, still uniting to challenge Western dominance. In the Gulf, divisions ran deep: Egypt, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan aligned with the U.S., while Iran led its own camp, tied to Russia and China. Pakistan emerged uniquely trusted by all sides—America, China, Russia, and even Iran—hosting talks in Islamabad that laid the foundation for Geneva agreements. Gwadar port became a strategic hub, linking trade routes and diplomacy. Remarkably, Iran, once branded a “terror state,” now commands respect, halting wars and shaping global negotiations.

After the demise of Ajit Pawar, Rohit seemed lost, wasting energy on accident and conspiracy talk. Yet I had noted then—if he plays wisely, he could become a long race horse. Maharashtra today faces a huge vacuum of opposition, and in democracy, opposition is vital. Governments never run perfectly; issues like inflation, law, farming, irrigation always persist. The opposition’s role is to expose these flaws, awaken people, and hold power accountable. If Rohit avoids gimmicks like hunger strikes, communal appeasement, caste fights, and personal abuse, he can stand firm as a constructive opponent. He must focus on real issues—like the recent killing of a 14 year old in Sangli—and show empathy. A strong, responsible opposition is essential for democracy, and Rohit has the chance to fill that void.

Punjab politics has been shaken by a dramatic move from the Akal Takht. The Sikh Guru Council declared Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann “Guru dokhi” and “Khalsa Panth opposing” over an allegedly offensive video and accusations of misleading the Takht. After a meeting of the five Singh Sahibs in Amritsar, Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gadgaj announced the order, signaling that Mann’s conduct was judged against Sikh teachings and Khalsa principles. Such declarations carry immense weight in the Sikh community. All Sikh MLAs and Punjab’s cabinet have been summoned to appear before the Takht on June 29, regardless of party affiliation. The controversy also ties into the proposed anti blasphemy law in the state. This confrontation underscores the deep intersection of religion and politics in Punjab’s governance.

Congress claims to elect its leader democratically, but reality shows otherwise. The Central Working Committee (CWC) is supposed to choose the party president, yet for nearly 30 years Sonia Gandhi or Rahul Gandhi have held the post, alternating without challenge. Why? Because CWC members are not elected by state leaders but appointed directly by the Congress president. This means whoever controls appointments also controls removals, ensuring no member dares contest against the Gandhis. Even today, Mallikarjun Kharge is only a nominal president, while Sonia, Rahul, and Priyanka make all decisions. Viral clips even show Rahul treating Kharge dismissively, yet no leader criticizes him. Thus, Congress’s “democracy” is little more than a show, where real power remains firmly in the Gandhi family’s hands.

Shiv Sena’s Lok Sabha unit faces fresh turmoil. Reports suggest that out of nine MPs, seven may cross over to Eknath Shinde’s faction. At Uddhav Thackeray’s recent meeting at Matoshree, only four attended in person, three joined online, while two excused themselves earlier. Yet Uddhav’s remark—“those who want to leave may go happily”—signals deeper cracks. Speculation grows of a major split by June 19, with whispers of unrest even among MLAs. Months ago, critics predicted Uddhav, Aaditya, and Sanjay Raut might be left alone in the party; though exaggerated, today’s trajectory seems to validate that fear. The opposition vacuum in Maharashtra could widen further if this exodus materializes, leaving Uddhav’s faction weakened and Shinde’s camp stronger. A political earthquake looms over Sena’s future.
