On 3 February 2026, seven Congress MPs and one CPI(M) MP were suspended for disorderly conduct during the Budget Session. However, earlier this week, the Lok Sabha unanimously passed a resolution to withdraw their suspension for the second half of the session. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju reminded members that they were elected to debate and legislate, not disrupt proceedings. Speaker Om Birla had convened an all-party meeting where Congress leader K. Suresh expressed regret over the MPs’ behavior. Two key agreements were reached: opposition MPs will avoid irrelevant or baseless remarks, and they will not cross into the ruling side, throw papers, climb tables, or misbehave with officials. If discipline breaks again, the Speaker is expected to act firmly to maintain order.

A recent incident sparked outrage when a group filmed an Iftar party on boats and deliberately threw chicken bones into the Ganga, later circulating the video online. While a simple gathering would not be illegal, making and sharing such content with the intent to provoke religious sentiments transforms it into a criminal act. Under Indian law, rivers like the Ganga are recognized as sacred, and rituals such as asthi visarjan are permitted. However, dumping waste or animal remains into river water is prohibited. When done deliberately to insult or offend, it becomes a graver offense. Authorities have emphasized that this is not just about pollution but about hurting religious feelings. Legal action is expected, with strict enforcement under existing environmental and religious protection laws.

By 16 March 2026, Iran’s civil aviation collapsed. All 19 international airports, including Tehran’s Imam Khamenei and Mehrabad, are shut under a strict No-Fly Zone. Iran’s national airline planes remain stranded abroad, paying heavy parking fees. In contrast, Israel’s three airports—Ben Gurion, Ramon, and Haifa—operate normally with full schedules. Despite Iran’s larger size and population, the war has highlighted its vulnerability. Israeli casualties remain under 20, while Iran reports 7,000 deaths and 25,000 injured. The roots trace back to the 1979 Islamic Revolution, when Ayatollah Khomeini replaced a modern monarchy with clerical rule. Since then, Iran has fueled hostility toward Israel, backing groups like Hezbollah and Hamas. This conflict underscores how ideology-driven enmity destabilizes nations, leaving Iran isolated and weakened while Israel maintains resilience.

The ongoing Iran–US conflict has stretched beyond 18 days, defying expectations of a quick end. Analysts point to Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s long-serving Prime Minister, as the real strategist behind the crisis. Facing corruption trials and political instability, he has often used wars—whether in Gaza or against Iran—to divert attention and consolidate power. Netanyahu pushed the US into confrontation, framing Iran as a nuclear threat and mobilizing global opinion. Yet Iran’s decentralized military strategy, cheap drones, and missile strikes have kept resistance alive even after leadership losses. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz has disrupted global oil supplies, rattling markets worldwide. America now finds itself trapped, with allies hesitant and rivals like Russia and China backing Iran. This war signals a geopolitical shift, weakening US dominance and elevating Iran as a regional power.

On 15 March 2026, West Bengal Assembly elections were announced. Within just two days, Mamata Banerjee’s TMC declared 291 candidates (leaving 3 for allies). In contrast, BJP announced 144, CPI(M) 192, and Congress none. TMC had already prepared its candidates and pushed them into indirect campaigning, leveraging government schemes more effectively than rivals. Mamata balanced temple and mosque outreach, invoked Bengal’s identity, and openly defied ED and CBI. She now claims victory on 226 out of 294 seats. While other parties still struggle to finalize their lists, TMC’s speed and clarity show sharp election management. This early momentum sets the tone for Bengal’s political battlefield.
