The Lok Sabha's passage of the Immigration & Foreigners Bill, 2025, marks a significant step in strengthening India's internal security and immigration control. Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized that while India welcomes those who come for business, education, and investment, it will not tolerate illegal infiltration or security threats. The bill ensures that every foreign visitor is closely monitored, with mandatory reporting requirements for hotels, universities, and hospitals. By introducing stricter regulations, the government aims to prevent misuse of visas and unauthorized stays, reinforcing India’s sovereignty and security.
With provisions empowering the Centre to regulate premises frequently visited by foreigners, the bill grants the government greater control over potential security risks. Amit Shah's assertion that "India is not a Dharamshala" underlines the shift towards a more structured and vigilant immigration system. By addressing concerns over Rohingya and Bangladeshi infiltrators, the legislation tackles long-standing security challenges. With nearly one crore foreigners visiting India annually, this bill ensures a streamlined process for legal immigration while preventing illegal activities that could compromise national stability.

Jindal Stainless Ltd (JSL) has announced plans to invest ₹40,000 crore in Maharashtra to establish a large-scale stainless steel manufacturing facility. The project has received approval from the state cabinet subcommittee, chaired by Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar. The facility, to be developed over the next decade, will have a total melting capacity of 4 million tonnes per annum and is expected to generate over 15,000 jobs. With rising uncertainty over U.S. visa policies, Indian students studying in America are now hesitating to visit home, fearing they may face difficulties returning. Universities such as MIT, Columbia, and Yale have advised their international students to be cautious about traveling abroad due to potential immigration crackdowns under the Trump administration. This has left many students in a dilemma—torn between seeing their families and securing their academic future. As a result, many have chosen to stay in the U.S., skipping major festivals, weddings, and personal milestones to avoid risking their student visas.
The core issue stems from the U.S. administration’s stricter stance on immigration, leading to an alarming rise in visa rejections, with nearly 41% of student visa applications denied in 2024 alone. If this trend continues, it could have long-term consequences, not only affecting individual students but also discouraging Indian talent from pursuing education in the U.S. This situation highlights the growing instability in global education pathways, pushing Indian students to consider alternative destinations such as Canada, the UK, and Australia, where visa policies are perceived to be more welcoming and reliable.

Mumbai’s municipal corporation, often regarded as one of the richest in India, is now facing revenue challenges, prompting the auction of its land parcels. With major infrastructure projects underway and an increasing financial burden, the BMC is looking for alternative revenue sources. However, initial bids for the three proposed land auctions received no response from developers, leading to a revision in the base prices—slashed by 50%—to attract buyers. The lack of initial interest was largely due to high reserve prices, hefty security deposits, and land-use reservations that could delay development.
While reducing the base prices might help generate immediate revenue, concerns arise over potential financial losses for the BMC. However, officials argue that the new auction terms ensure that developers will still have to pay additional premiums if they utilize extra FSI (Floor Space Index) in the future. These prime land parcels, currently unutilized, could contribute significantly to city development while generating income for the corporation. The revised strategy aims to balance revenue generation with urban expansion, but the success of the auctions will ultimately determine the effectiveness of this approach.
