Trap Day Politics – A Lesson in Strategy
January 26, 2026 turned into a “Trap Day” for the ruling party. Carefully planned incidents during official programs sparked controversy, and social media amplified the uproar. In reacting hastily, BJP leaders slipped into criticizing revered figures like Dr. Ambedkar, Jyotiba Phule, Savitribai, and Annabhau Sathe. That was the trap—drawing anger from communities deeply attached to these icons. Communists and rival groups understand the emotional pulse of marginalized voters. They invoke slogans of Bhim, Phule, Shahu, and Constitution to win trust, even if not practiced in spirit. BJP, however, often fails to recognize these tactics. Instead of adding allies, careless words subtract support. Maturity lies in restraint. Silence for 48 hours can cool tempers, while reactive statements only fuel fire. Politics is about headcount, not ego.

Violence at Malad Station – A Stark Reminder
On Saturday evening, Malad railway station witnessed a chilling act of violence. Professor Alok Singh was brutally stabbed to death with a sharp weapon, an incident captured on CCTV. What began as a minor quarrel while alighting from a local train escalated into a horrific crime. Railway police acted swiftly, tracing and arresting the prime accused, Omkar Shinde. The speed of investigation offers some reassurance, yet the incident highlights the fragility of public safety in crowded urban spaces. A trivial dispute turning into murder underscores the urgent need for stronger policing, awareness, and conflict resolution measures. Mumbai’s lifeline—the local trains—must remain safe for millions of commuters. This tragedy is a reminder that unchecked anger can destroy lives in an instant.

Manufactured Outrage and Selective Silence
In a recent incident, Girish Mahajan’s speech did not mention Dr. Ambedkar, leading to uproar from a forest department employee and amplified outrage across media platforms. BJP, RSS, and certain communities were quickly targeted with abuse. Yet history shows a striking double standard: Jawaharlal Nehru, in his first Independence Day speech and for 17 years thereafter, never once mentioned Subhash Chandra Bose, Savarkar, or other revolutionaries who fought for freedom. Successive Congress Prime Ministers also avoided such references. At that time, the press remained silent. Today, however, the same media erupts selectively, exposing its bias. This pattern suggests that outrage is less about genuine respect for icons and more about political convenience. Manufactured controversies weaken public discourse and erode trust in journalism.

Social Media Surveys and Political Strategy
Recently, Facebook has seen surveys asking whether Devendra Fadnavis should be supported as India’s future Prime Minister. A few years ago, similar campaigns were run for Nitin Gadkari. At that time, Gadkari himself appealed to the public not to fall into such traps, warning that these social media drives were often attempts by opponents to create divisions within the BJP. He made it clear that he fully supports Prime Minister Modi and has no ambition for the post. The same logic applies to Fadnavis. Participating in such speculative polls only creates unnecessary controversy and weakens party unity. Interestingly, both names floated—Gadkari and Fadnavis—belong to the Brahmin community, which is not a coincidence but a reflection of deeper political narratives.

Maharashtra’s “Crown of Foolishness”
Sanjay Raut’s politics today seems reduced to counting insults. Yesterday it was Girish Mahajan “insulting Ambedkar,” the day before it was Governor Koshyari “insulting Maharashtra” while still receiving the Padma Bhushan. Yet, while he loudly protests imagined slights, he ignores the daily rejection and ridicule he faces from the people themselves. A leader who cannot recognize his own genuine humiliation, but thrives on inventing others’ insults, becomes a caricature. Social media even debated honoring Raut with a felicitation. But many now argue he deserves a different title altogether—“Maharashtra’s Crown Fool of Politics.” In a democracy, credibility comes from substance, not noise. When a politician chooses outrage over accountability, the public responds with mockery, stripping him of relevance.
