The recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which led to the tragic loss of 26 lives, has once again highlighted the ongoing security challenges in the region. The militants, allegedly linked to Pakistan-based terror groups, targeted tourists and locals indiscriminately, creating fear and uncertainty. India’s swift response, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty and expelling Pakistani diplomats, reflects the nation's frustration with Pakistan’s inability to curb cross-border terrorism. The escalating tensions are further evident as both countries engage in a war of words, with Pakistan closing its airspace and threatening retaliation over any interference with water-sharing agreements. This attack not only fuels the long-standing conflict between India and Pakistan but also exposes the vulnerabilities of civilians caught in the crossfire. Prime Minister Modi’s pledge to seek justice and punish the perpetrators adds a sense of urgency to India's counterterrorism efforts. While international condemnation of the attack has been strong, the incident underscores the volatile and precarious security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The potential for further escalation remains high, and the region’s future stability appears increasingly uncertain as both sides continue to exchange hostilities.

The sale of United News of India (UNI), one of India's oldest and most respected news agencies, for a shockingly low price of under ₹100 crores, despite its vast immovable assets, has raised serious concerns about the future of journalism in the country. The fact that UNI was sold for less than the value of its iconic headquarters in Delhi, and that journalists associated with the agency have been left without pay for years, highlights the exploitation of media professionals. The acquisition by The Statesman, a struggling newspaper, has sparked suspicions about hidden forces behind the deal. Many see this as a reflection of the broader crisis in Indian journalism.UNI, once a respected pillar of competitive and factual reporting, is now facing a sharp decline, further evidenced by a tragic suicide of a UNI journalist allegedly due to financial stress. This incident sheds light on the harsh realities faced by media professionals in India. The situation has prompted calls for a CBI investigation, with growing demands for Prime Minister Modi’s intervention to protect the integrity and future of Indian journalism, ensuring that the values of objectivity and independence are upheld in a rapidly changing media landscape.

A 2024 global report highlights a troubling trend in terrorism. The top 10 deadliest terrorist organizations all share a common ideology — Sunni Islamist extremism.Groups like ISIS, TTP, Boko Haram, and Al-Shabaab have claimed thousands of innocent lives. They operate across Asia, Africa, and the Middle East with brutal precision. Each of them draws from a radical interpretation of one religion. This raises difficult but important questions: Why just one ideology? Why this pattern?Billions peacefully follow Islam, but extremist factions hijack it to justify violence.Denying this pattern only delays effective counterterrorism efforts. We must separate faith from fanaticism while calling out radicalization. The phrase “terror has no religion” sounds idealistic but often blurs harsh truths. To defeat extremism, we must recognise where it stems from.Understanding the ideology is not hate — it’s a step toward peace.Ignoring these links only empowers the networks that thrive in denial. We need global unity to address the roots, not just the results, of terror.Truth may be uncomfortable — but silence is far more dangerous.

Kashmir has long been romanticised for its beauty, yet the ground reality is marred by betrayal and silence. While the government pumps in resources to build peace and boost tourism, some locals continue to shelter or silently support terror elements. It’s a bitter truth—terror attacks don’t happen in isolation. The question isn't just about who pulled the trigger, but who knew and said nothing. You can’t enjoy the fruits of peace and still water the roots of violence. The Pahalgam attack is not just a failure of security—it’s a reflection of misplaced loyalties. If the region truly wants peace, then the locals must play a central role in wiping out terror. Silence is no longer innocence. It’s time to choose between progress and extremism.Indian tourists don’t owe Kashmir their lives. Every year, countless families travel to the valley hoping for peace and beauty—but end up facing bullets or bombs. Why should they risk their lives for a region that still refuses to call out its own terror breeding grounds? When shopkeepers vanish mysteriously before attacks, when locals stay mute on militants hiding in plain sight—it’s not a coincidence. It’s a conspiracy of silence. If Kashmiris want tourism, they must ensure it’s safe.
